Gmail is known for its faster access & reliability. It is one of the best free email provider that offers unlimited or you can say ever increasing mailbox space. Most of the users online uses Gmail as there primary Email client. Apart from the basic mail settings available on other free email services, Gmail also offers a number of settings that you can use. All of these settings are available from the Gmail Settings page. I am going to discuss about various Gmail features and settings. So lets start

Gmail display language – Gmail offers a unique feature to its users. Users can select any language as per there preferences. Gmail gives us freedom to choose our language. You can change your language in settings option.

Maximum page size – By default gmail displays 50 emails on a single page. But if you don’t want these many emails to appear on a single page you can change your preferences and set this number to 25. You can change this on settings page.

My picture – You can even send your email attached with avatars automatically, so that  people recognizes you faster.

Personal level indicators – You can turn off the arrows on your mail document list if you find it annoying. I prefer to have it turned on so I can differentiate an email from a mailing list from personal emails.

Snippets – Gmail offer this unique feature in which you can turn off  or on snippets (message excerpts) besides your mail document list.

Vacation Responder -It is similar to auto responder. When a mail arrives gmail can automatically sent a response to that mail. It can be useful when you are out of the for a few days.

Send mail as -You can use a different address as your sender’s email address. This means sending an email via your Gmail and ask the recipient to reply to another alternate email address.

Import Mail and contacts -It enables you to get other emails and contacts from email accounts displayed inside your Gmail.

Filters -It automatically sort received email documents from different recipients to specific folders or labels. Gmail Comes with multiple filter types. You can create new filters in settings option.

Forwarding - You can send a copy of each newly arrived emails to another email account.

POP Download / IMAP Access -You can even access your Gmail email documents from your desktop email client, online or offline.

My Clips – This feature shows or disable web clips (news headlines, Gmail tips, blogs, any RSS and Atom feed, relevant sponsored links, and more). Useful to show instant updates of your favorite RSS feeds.

Themes – You can customize the look of your gmail account by choosing various themes.

Last Location Activity -In Gmail there is feature which shows your last account activity details. It shows when u last accessed your account and from where. It also shows the login details for last 10 Account activity. It is a great feature from security point of view, In case of any one else accessing your account you can know easily know about it.

Message Translation- Now you can directly translate all your messages in gmail using this new feature.

Superstars -One of the advantage of using Gmail is that it allows you to star your emails for quick reference.

Forgotten Attachment Detector – This feature is a bit intelligent in the sense that if you mention any attachments in your email message and forget to attach those files this feature can remind you of attaching your attachments.

Send and Archive – As the name says this feature adds a “Send & Receive” button to your “Compose” email page with which you can respond to an email and archive it at the same time.

Share mail searches with friends – It is another great feature which Gmail offers to it’s clients . It enables you to share the Mail searches with friends.All you have to do is search for the message  and then copy the url and send the link to your friend. When he or she goes to that link while in Gmail, your friend’s Gmail will run the same search you ran . It can be helpful if you sent a mail to your friend and he says that he did not received any such Email then you can try this way out.For example, if you wanted to share a search for techbu is great , you would send over this URL: http://mail.google.com/mail/#search/techbu+is+great

Bookmark Emails – Now in gmail you can bookmark specific emails.All emails now have dedicated URLs so you can just add a browser bookmark while viewing a message so that you can return to it whenever you want, just like a regular web page. But you cannot view your bookmarked email if you are not logged in.

Browser navigation and history – Your web browser is now a great way to navigate Gmail. Now you can use the browser navigation buttons (back and forward) to jump back and forth between emails. You can also open your browser history and click on specific emails that you’ve read to go right back to them.

Message Sneak Peek- There are times when you are away and you do not have access to your inbox for a long time. And on returning, you find it flooded with hundreds of mails. It could be really time consuming to read each and every mail one by one by opening them.The newly introduced Labs feature Message Sneak Peek is the solution to this problem. By enabling this Labs feature you can preview your mails without opening them. By right clicking it you can have a preview of the message.
