R.I.P orkut: India changes to facebook

Google’s grief with social networking continues. Orkut, once  held a major stake of social networking market in INDIA is about to fall to facebook in INDIA. Statistics show that, facebook is rapidly catching up with orkut, in matter of months it may overtake orkut to gain the top spot.

Dismissing Orkut in India at the moment seems a rather premature statement to make.Orkut has the credit for introducing social networking to indian internet. It would be pitty to see it loose it’s market,which it has created!

But Google is no longer pinning its social networking hopes on Orkut. It has moved onto other things like cloning Facebook with its not-so-secret Google Me project. Well, it might not be a complete clone, if the ideas of one Google researcher are any indication.
